Emily Newman-PondViolaEmily is an avid chamber musician, and has performed all across the world with the Fitzroy Quartet, with whom she has been the violist since 2014. The quartet have been = recipients of many awards and prizes, most notably they won the Royal Overseas League Strings Chamber Music Competition as well as the Beethoven Prize at the Beethoven International String Quartet Competition. The quartet are also selected artists on Le Dimore del Quartetto (Italy), Pro Quartet Chamber Music Institution (Paris) and have held residencies and fellowship positions at the Royal Academy of Music and Royal Birmingham Conservatoire. They have also been Tunnell Trust Award
Winners and look forward to a busy 2023/2024 season. Emily is also the violist with Ensemble Mirage, a flexi-ensemble performing a wide ranger of string and wind repertoire. They have been St John Smith Square Selected Artists and perform regularly across the UK. As a freelance musician, Emily performs regularly with Manchester Camerata and has appeared with the BBC Philharmonic, Royal Liverpool Philharmonic, Malta Philharmonic, Northern Ballet and Sinfonia Cymru Orchestras. Emily is also building a large class of young violists who she teaches across her positions at the Royal College of Music Junior Department, Wycombe Abbey, North London Collegiate School and previously Kings College London. She has students in both the National Youth and National Children’s Orchestras and continues to prioritise supporting the younger generation of violists! |
